Steering Committee Applications
PA CHEP is currently accepting applications for its Steering Committee.
Application deadline: Friday, March 6, 2026
The Steering Committee plays a central role in guiding PA CHEP’s statewide work and ensuring that justice-impacted voices meaningfully shape policy, collaboration, and strategy.
What is the PA CHEP Steering Committee?
The Steering Committee is PA CHEP’s primary governing and advisory body. It helps guide the consortium’s strategic direction, supports statewide coordination across higher education in prison programs, and serves as a key point of communication with partners, including the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
Members contribute to setting priorities, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring PA CHEP’s work reflects the lived realities and expertise of those most directly impacted by the carceral system.
Who should apply?
PA CHEP welcomes applications from individuals with a wide range of experiences connected to higher education in prison, reentry education, and related work. You do not need to be employed by a higher education in prison program to apply.
We especially encourage applications from justice-impacted individuals with a connection to higher education in prison.
Applicants may include:
Justice-impacted individuals with lived experience of higher education in prison
Faculty, staff, or administrators involved in credit-bearing or non-credit programs
Community college, PASSHE, state-related, and private institution representatives
Reentry practitioners, educators, and community partners
Individuals with relevant policy, advocacy, or systems-level experience
What is the commitment?
Steering Committee members serve three-year terms and meet quarterly. Meetings are held remotely, with additional committee or working group participation as needed.
Members are expected to participate actively in meetings, contribute to committee work aligned with their interests, and support PA CHEP’s collaborative, statewide mission.
PA CHEP is committed to supporting justice-impacted members’ participation and compensating their time and expertise whenever possible.
